The will of Charles Glover

In the name of God amen

I Charles Glover of Birmingham in the county of Warwick gentleman do make this my last will and testament manner following that is to say

In the first place …

I give and bequeath unto such man servant and maid servant as shall be living with me at the time of my decease and shall have been living with me for the span of twelve calendar months then next preceding the sum of ten pounds each

I give and bequeath unto my much esteemed friend John Dickinson of Birmingham aforesaid gentleman late of the firm of Hammond Turner and Dickinson and to William Brunton of the same place ironfounder, a partner with Harris Smith and Harman the sum of fifty pounds each of which I beg their acceptance as a small compensation for the trouble they may have in the execution of this my will the same to be free of legacy duty

To my cousin Samuel Glover of Birmingham aforesaid eldest son of Samuel Glover late of Birmingham aforesaid chemist deceased and grandson of William Glover formerly residing at or near Tamworth but now deceased the sum of two hundred pounds

To Hannah the wife of John Muslow of Hall Street in Birmingham aforesaid button maker the sum of two hundred pounds and I direct the several above mentioned legacies to be paid within twelve calendar months next after my decease with lawful interest from that time free from legacy duty and all other charges in the law …

I gave and bequeath to my dear wife Sarah Glover and my dear sister in law Elizabeth Mansfield and to their heirs all those my several freehold messuages tenements and hereditaments with the appurtenances situate and being in or near to Milk Street Floodgate Street Moors Row and Ann Street respectively in Birmingham aforesaid to hold the same unto and for the use of my said wife and sister their heirs and assigns forever as joint tenants …

To pay and apply the sum of two thousand pounds (over and above the Aldridge and Hall Street Estates …
To pay to my cousin Sarah Tor widow of Joseph Tor deceased

To Martha Smith Stringer daughter or reputed daughter of John Smith late of Birmingham aforesaid button maker

In trust in case my faithful servant Alice Collins shall continue with us till the time of my decease

In case of his [Samuel Glover’s] decease before me as is mentioned respecting the legacy of two hundred pounds hereinbefore given to my cousin Charles Glover son of the said William Glover formerly living at or near Tamworth but now deceased … to be paid to his son William Glover on attaining the age of twenty one years … for the maintenance education and support of the said William Glover … or other such son or sons … given to my thirteen female relations

To the three sons of my cousin Mary Gale late of Tamworth deceased who was the daughter of my uncle and aunt William and Sylvia Coleman otherwise ? late of Fazeley near Tamworth To the three sons of my cousin Catherine Pearce who was the daughter of the said William and Sylvia Coleman otherwise ?

On the event of there being no son of the aforesaid Charles Glover nor the issue of any son who shall be entitled thereto as aforesaid that is to say

the five daughters of my said cousin Samuel Glover late of Birmingham aforesaid who has the son of William Glover residing at or near Tamworth

the three daughters of my said cousin Charles Glover who also was the son of the same William Glover

the two daughters of the aforesaid Mary Gale

the two daughters of the aforesaid Catherine Pearce and Elizabeth ? of Clerkenwell London tobacconist who was the daughter of ? Sadler late of Tamworth aforesaid deceased

And lastly I do appoint my said dear wife Sarah Glover and my sister in law Elizabeth Mansfield and my several before mentioned trustees John Dickinson William Brunton my cousin Samuel Glover son of Samuel Glover deceased and the said John Munslow executrix and executor of this my last will and testament
Set my hand and seal this eighth day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred and nineteen

This is a codicil to the will of Charles Glover
