Refined dining can never have been easy with a large moustache but help was available in the form of a moustache protector. This silver model, for a cup, was recently auctioned on eBay.

It measures 8 cms wide and is hallmarked Birmingham 1910 with a makers mark HT&S for Hammond Turner & Sons.

The protector sold for over £90.
